Every time Picasa is opened, it automatically locates all pictures and sorts them into visual albums organized by date. We recently made some updates to Picasa Web Albums to address some of your top feature requests. These photos won’t automatically appear in Google Photos, but you can access them with your Picasa Web Albums data in the album archive. Access them from any phone, tablet, or computer on photos.google.com – your photos will be safe, secure, and always with you. Picasa is software that allows users to find, edit and share all pictures on his or her PC.
You can access your Picasa Web Albums data, including your tags, captions and comments, in the album archive.

Picasa Web Albums is still alive and kicking, though its URL now directs you to Google+. I have been assured by my contacts at Google that these links will be OK. YAY!
